Our Needham Library should partner with our Schools, Rosemary, Needham TV, and local businesses, to design and deliver quality programming options especially on these Wednesday afternoons, so that our students have enriching alternatives to roaming around town. The infrastructure, space, content, and staffing (leveraging school teaching assistants) are already available, so this would also be economical to implement.
The possibilities are endless and include photography, introduction to AI tools and virtual reality, financial literacy, community coding hackathons, and book circles.
This is an excellent example where we should use available technology and AI to mine the circulation data the Library already has, to understand how long patrons are waiting for materials, which titles have been and will be in high demand, and forecast future demand so patrons don't face such delays. We should also explore expansion of our Minuteman system partnership to include our School Library collections.
I stand for responsive and prudent stewardship of our local Library, which has no direct connection to land use nor zoning. This isn't part of our Library's charter and I would keep it that way, leaving zoning policies to our Town bodies that specialize in this area.
I have a track record of bridging divides to create partnerships, especially with smart use of technology and funding sources. Examples include my experience volunteering with Needham's Library, our schools and school libraries, and local non-profit initiatives launched from scratch. I will bring these fresh ideas, innovation, and energy to our beloved Needham Library!
